I suspect your problem might be port forwarding. It was something I knew nothing about but this website proved mega-helpful including specific directions for specific routers and programs including uTorrent. Solved all my problems.

One other thing, have you got a green circle with a tick in it on the status bar at the bottom of uTorrent's screen? If so, then everything is working well. No problems with port forwarding etc from your router.
